Where Light Dwells – art from Dot and Ian in major exhibition

Two artists from Hilton Church – Dot Walker and Ian Whyte – are displaying work in an exhibition currently running in Inverness.
Janet Bryer of Inverness Methodist Church has organised a major art exhibition, ‘Where Light Dwells : faith, hope and art for a wounded world’. It’s on until 25th October – the main venue is Inverness Creative Academy (WASPS) with some work exhibited in Inverness Cathedral.
Where Light Dwells’ features work by 24 artists including Graham Sutherland and Peter Howson from the internationally-significant Methodist Modern Art Collection, together with paintings by 12 local artists and work from groups meeting in The Bike Shed.
Both of the Hilton Church artists are represented by two works: Dot by ‘I was a stranger’ and ‘Mother and child’ and Ian by ‘Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world’ and ‘I cast for comfort I can no more get.’ All this work presents a clarion call to act as agents of light in a troubled world.
The painting in the photo of Dot is ‘I was a stranger’, recalling the words of Jesus:
I was hungry and you gave me food
I was thirsty and you gave me drink
I was a stranger and you welcomed me
I was naked and you clothed me
I was sick and you came to me
I was in prison and you visited me
Whatever you did to the least of these, you did to me.
The painting in the photo of Ian is ‘Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world.’ It’s a quote from ‘The Second Coming’ by W. B. Yeats:
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Everyone is warmly welcome to see the exhibition!
Where Light Dwells can be seen until 25 October at Inverness Creative Academy (WASPS) (in the old gym) from 10.30am – 3.00pm and at Inverness Cathedral from 9.00 – 5.30 (please note service times.)
