A worship service was  held at 10am on Sunday, 17th October in the church building, and simultaneously broadcast on the Church Facebook page.  You can catch up here, or by following the link below.

The readings for Sunday were:

Job 38:1-7, 34-41        Psalm 104:1-9       Hebrews  5:1-10         Mark 10:35-45

Duncan continued his discussion of the biblical character Job’s experience of suffering, and sought to draw lessons to help us in our times of struggle and darkness.  In Job 38, God speaks to Job, but simply presents him with a series of questions which emphasise God’s immensity.  Duncan mentioned how we often want answers to the problems and questions we face, but sometimes there will only be questions. He mentioned Jesus praying ‘My God, my God why have you forsaken me?’

Jesus taught us things about God which were only intermittently glimpsed in the Old Testament, especially the mother/father love of God for us. Yet he too came to this moment when there was simply a question. ‘My God, why?’

The challenge for us is not to judge ourselves because of our questions, but rather to live the questions and keep open to the God whom we believe will not fail us.
