Sunday Service: September 5th 2021

An all-age service was held at 10am on Sunday 5th September, in the church building, and simultaneously broadcast on the Church Facebook page.   You can catch up here, or by clicking on the link below.

The theme was taken from the Bible reading from James.  We were reflecting on the fact that God shows no favouritism, and that consequently, neither should we.  Duncan led us in considering ‘unconscious bias’ which can lead us to privilege one person over another for subconscious motives.  Chris Watt spoke to the children (and to all of us) about God’s warm-hearted inculsion and acceptance, and we sang a new song, specially written by Matthew Todd  – God doesn’t have favourites.

We  also met Judith Macleod who is in training for the Church of Scotland ministry and is to be on placement with us at Hilton for the next six months. She also has a role with Eco Congregation Scotland in promoting awareness of global warming and the actions we can take to make a difference.  Judith reminded us of the global dimension of the climate emergency. If we are serious aboutnot showing  favouritism then we will remember people living in other parts of the world whose lives are effected by the decisions affluent countries like ours, and individuals in those countries make.

The service was inspiring and very helpful, and is well worth listening to.

The readings for Sunday were:

Proverbs 22: 1-2, 8-9, 22-23      Psalm 125      James 2:1-17      Mark 7:24-37
