Book Group: September selection

Book Group

Shona reports about the August group meeting:

We enjoyed our evening at Andreas on Thursday catching up after the summer break. We discussed the books we had chosen last time.

Divided house  by  JM Dalgleish got 3.5/5. It was felt that it started slowly but it grew in interest and intrigue and had a good ending.

The Underground Railroad  by Colon Whitehead got 4.5/5. We agreed it was an excellent read with a gripping storyline but some felt it ended abruptly and there was a fair amount of violence described.

The Sealwomans gift   by Sally Magnusson got 5/5. It was brilliantly written and the descriptions of life in Iceland and Algiers in the 1600s were fascinating. The fact that it was based on true facts added to the interest.

The next Book Group will meet on Thursday 27th September at 7.30 at the home of Andrea Sillars.  The books chosen for this month are The Brighton Mermaid by Dorothy Coomson and/or The Keeper of Lost Things by Ruth Hogan.  For more information about the book club speak to Shona MacPherson.
