Letter from the Congregational Board

Dear Friends,

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles, and pray at all times.  (Romans 12 v12)

It’s hard to believe that we are now in July.  It’s been a frenetic period for us as a Congregational Board over these past few months.  The lockdown on the 23rd March gave us a major challenge overnight in terms of our finances.  In the first month alone, we lost over £2400 in the offerings which would normally have been given during the services.  This was clearly an unsustainable position for us as a congregation, and we wrote to you highlighting our predicament and asking you to prayerfully consider how you could support the life and witness of Hilton Parish Church moving forward.

We have now reached the half way point in the financial year, and we are delighted to report that through your commitment and generosity we have actually increased the level of giving by 6% compared to 2019.  This has been a wonderful response on your part as a congregation, and we would like to express our gratitude to you for all that you have given and shared.   Financial challenges still lie ahead of us, with some significant expenditure required in relation to maintenance and repair of the buildings.  We will continue to write to you on a regular basis with financial updates.

The Congregational Board met via Zoom last week, and we made several decisions which will have financial implications for us moving forward.  We agreed, as a matter of necessity, to spend nearly £5k on major repairs to the steps and ramps at both the back and front of the building.  Both accesses are in very bad condition and will require to be repaired prior to us moving back into the building.  We also agreed to establish a special fund in order to purchase a new set of electric drums.  If you would like to make a contribution towards this fund, here is the link.

We have been delighted to see God at work in our congregation over these past few months, through so many different ways.  It has been a blessing to share in worship online every Sunday and to connect with so many people beyond the regular congregation who used to meet in the building.  We know that things will never be the same again, but we are encouraged to believe that we have a good future together as a congregation as we enter the next Phases out of the restrictions.  The Board continue to plan towards the day when we can meet together again within the building and we will keep you informed on all developments over the coming weeks.

In closing this letter, we would like to express particular gratitude to our Administrator, Jane MacLean, who has coordinated all the organisational aspects of our congregation during the lockdown, including the finances.  We are incredibly blessed to have her working with us at Hilton Church.

We give thanks to God for all his goodness towards us as a congregation, and we wish you a healthy and safe summer.
